- The combination of garlic bulb and cinnamon bark
- Used in herbal medicine to support cardiovascular health and reduce high blood lipid levels in adults
- Provides 10 mg of allicin per daily dose
- Each daily dose contains 80% cinnamic aldehyde
Allisyn is a blend of allicin and cinnamic aldehyde that is traditionally used to support cardiovascular health. The main bioactive component of garlic is allicin. When broken down, this sulfur-containing compound is responsible for garlic's characteristic odor. Recent research indicates that long-term garlic consumption can effectively reduce overall cholesterol levels to higher baseline values. Garlic helps reduce high lipid levels by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis and LDL oxidation in the liver. In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving 150 hyperlipidemic adults, a daily intake of 800 mg of garlic powder capsules (providing 2 mg of allicin) for six weeks significantly reduced total and LDL cholesterol by approximately 12% and 17%, respectively. Similarly, in vitro research demonstrates that cinnamic aldehyde reduces mRNA levels of PPAR-γ and SREBP1, transcription factors that regulate lipid synthesis and storage. Cinnamic aldehyde and garlic promote endothelial cell function by decreasing lipid peroxidation and inhibiting the activities of the inflammation-promoting transcription factor NFκB.
