Methylcobalamin is a highly bioavailable activated form of vitamin B12, which is the main form of cobalamin circulating in the body. In general, vitamin B12 works with folate to promote the formation of red blood cells. Additionally, vitamin B12 is an important cofactor in energy metabolism. Methylmalonyl-CoA mutase is a vitamin B12-dependent enzyme. It participates in the formation of succinyl-CoA, a key intermediate in the Krebs cycle. Vitamin B12 is also an essential component of the methionine synthase pathway.
