Candicin is a combination of natural oils traditionally used to help relieve digestive disorders. Gastrointestinal disorders, including flatulence and bloating, may be the result of improper movement of food through the stomach or intestines. Ginger contains oleoresin, which is responsible for its pungent odor. Elements of this resin, including shogaols, gingerols and zingerone, can bind receptors on endocrine cells in the digestive tract and pancreas. This leads to increased secretion of gastric juices and bile, gastric motility and gastric emptying. Digestive enzymes from the pancreas are increasingly released, reducing travel time through the intestines and helping to relieve intestinal upset. Additionally, ginger increases blood flow to the mucous layer of the stomach and inhibits serotonin receptors, which are responsible for controlling nausea. Bitter mugwort oil contains wormwood, an extremely bitter component. Like pungent ginger, the bitter components can bind receptors to endocrine cells in the digestive tract and pancreas, synergistically enhancing gastric juice secretion, motility and pancreatic digestion.
