Col-Sterol

Col-Sterol is a blend of plant sterol esters that is used to reduce overall cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. Plant sterols are similar in structure to cholesterol, but the groups of their side chains differ. Intake of plant sterols leads to a continual cycle of reduced dietary cholesterol assimilation, cholesterol utilization increasing bile acid synthesis, reducing bile acid reassimilation, and increasing cholesterol excretion in feces. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, daily supplementation of 1.3 g of sterol esters for four weeks reduced overall cholesterol and VLDL levels by approximately 5 and 4%, respectively, in 16 adults with hypercholesterolemia.
