- Supports liver function
Lipase promotes the breakdown of proteins, while amylase and glucoamylase stimulate the breakdown of starch and glycogen, two polysaccharides. Invertase and lactase support the digestion of disaccharides (a type of carbohydrate), including lactose (milk sugar). This formula also contains cellulase, hemicellulase, beta-glucanase and phytase. These enzymes break down cell wall elements and phytic acid, promoting the bioavailability of nutrients from fiber-containing foods. Additionally, alpha-galactosidase promotes the breakdown of certain complex carbohydrates, such as raffinose and stachyose, found in certain legumes, fruits and grains before they can be metabolized by gas-producing bacteria in the colon.
