- Epigallocatechin gallate: the most active constituent of green tea extract
EGCg from Designs for Health is a decaffeinated green tea extract obtained from Camellia sinensis leaves. Consumption of green tea has been documented since 2700 BC. 5-6 cups or more of green tea per day and beneficial effects on cardiometabolic health.
EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate) is one of the most studied green tea polyphenols, as it has been proven to explain many of the benefits seen when consuming dry green tea or green tea extract. It is the main catechin in green tea, accounting for 50-80% of the catechin content, or approximately 200-300 mg per cup of brewed green tea (from 5 g of dry green tea leaves).
