While these results are significant and impressive, combined treatment with La-NCFM and Bi-07 in this same study showed even a 73% reduced incidence of fever, 62% reduced incidence of cough, 84% less antibiotic use, and 28% reduction in days missed from daycare. Clearly, these probiotic strains provide some level of synergistic benefits when it comes to immune function in children.
While these results are significant, each strain is capable of much more than its immune benefits in children. La-NCFM has also been shown to reduce the number of oral candidiasis, increase the number of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, and improve markers of irritable bowel syndrome on its own, while Bi-07 effectively improves constipation and white blood cell function as a stand-alone therapy.
