Foresterol is a blend of phytosterols (plant sterols and stanols) aimed at promoting healthy cholesterol levels in the body as evidenced by research and years of clinical use.
When ingested, phytosterols inhibit the absorption of cholesterol, thereby lowering total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. Foresterol consists mainly of the four main phytosterols: beta-sitosterol, campesterol (in the form of free sterol; not in the form of sterol esters), campestanol and sitostanol. They have been shown to inhibit the absorption of cholesterol, both dietary and bile, in the small intestine; therefore, even vegetarians can benefit from Foresterol.
It is important to note that a large part of the cholesterol present in serum comes from intestinal reabsorption of cholesterol, the latter coming from the liver and gallbladder.
