- Digestive support (science-based)
Betaine (trimethylglycine) is an essential human nutrient present in most tissues and synthesized endogenously from choline in the liver and kidneys. Betaine plays several important biological roles, including as an osmoprotectant, methyl group donor, reducing plasma homocysteine levels, and ameliorating inflammation and oxidative stress.
Hypochlorhydria is common in several medical conditions, including Helicobacter pylori infection and in the geriatric population suffering from atrophic gastritis. Hypochlorhydria may also result from repeated use of acid-reducing pharmacological agents. A hydrochloric acid (HCl) supplement such as betaine HCl is very useful in this scenario, where free HCl is produced through dissociation once it reaches the stomach.
HCl-Pepsin SAP offers an optimal combination of betaine HCl and pepsin that may help support digestion and improve liver function.
