The HMF Baby Drops product contains two strains of probiotics that have been subjected to clinical studies, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum (KABP™-042) and Pediococcus pentosaceus (KABP™-041); These strains help relieve symptoms of infantile colic like crying, restlessness, or irritability. Infantile colic, or excessive crying syndrome, is a behavioral syndrome that occurs in babies 1 to 5 months of age and is characterized by long periods of crying and behavior that is difficult to calm. Infantile colic is classified as a functional gastrointestinal disease and is one of the main reasons for seeing a pediatrician during the first 3 or 4 months of a baby's life. Research has shown that the gut bacteria of colicky babies are less diverse than those of other children, suggesting that differences in gut microflora play an important role in the pathogenesis of colic. According to a recent clinical study, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum (KABP™-042) and Pediococcus pentosaceus (KABP™-041) contained in HMF Baby Drops an increase in the diversity of the intestinal microbiome and a 69% reduction in crying duration. The combination of probiotics in HMF Baby Drops has been shown to help relieve symptoms of infantile colic in both breast-fed and bottle-fed babies.
