HMF® capsules provide four strains of patented probiotics that temporarily modify the intestinal flora in adults and children. The composition of the intestinal microflora is relatively stable, although it can be modified by diet, stress, age and medications. Probiotics promote the presence of bacteria beneficial to maintaining healthy intestines. In addition to decreasing pathogen survival by increasing the release of antimicrobial peptides from host cells, probiotics also strengthen the epithelial barrier. They support the integrity of tight junctions, which control permeability, and increase the release of mucins, which prevent pathogens from adhering to intestinal surface cells. HMF® capsules contain research-derived strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria to promote colonization of the small and large intestines.
