HMFMD Women's Daily is a formula specially designed to meet the unique needs of women. Each shelf-stable capsule contains 17.6 billion CFU of a combination of seven research-based probiotic strains that helps restore and maintain vaginal flora. The vagina is a complex ecosystem that can be altered by many factors, including age, medication use, sexual activity, hygiene habits and hormone production. Lactobacilli are the dominant vaginal microorganisms in healthy women; they help maintain the vaginal microflora. They compete with other microorganisms for nutrients and adhere to the vaginal epithelium, they lower vaginal pH by producing organic acids (mainly lactic acid), and they produce antimicrobial compounds, such as bacteriocins and hydrogen peroxide. In addition to two species of bifidobacteria, HMFMD Women's Daily contains three species of lactobacilli chosen because of their natural presence in women's flora. This mixture contains the strains L. rhamnosus HN001 and L. acidophilus (LA-14), which have particularly beneficial effects on the vaginal flora.
