- Support for joint health
- Contains sodium hyaluronate, an assimilable and clinically studied form of hyaluronic acid
- Provides 140 mg of sodium hyaluronate per day
Hyaluronic acid is a natural polymer present in all tissues of the body. It is particularly concentrated in the skin and synovial fluid and consists of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and D-glucuronate units distributed alternately. The functions of this polymer include the attraction and retention of water in the extracellular matrix of tissues and in synovial fluid, which helps support joint health. In nature, hyaluronic acid is a high molecular weight compound ranging in size from 500,000 to 6 million daltons, which is too large to be absorbed in the small intestine. Sodium hyaluronate is a source of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid produced by fermentation. In a pharmacokinetic study, oral administration of this form of hyaluronic acid led to its incorporation into joints, connective tissue and skin, with a particular affinity for cartilaginous joints. When it comes to joints, hyaluronic acid particularly supports healthy lubrication and shock absorption. Additionally, in vitro studies demonstrate that hyaluronic acid modulates prostaglandin production, providing additional support for joint functions.
